Le Nouveau Théâtre Anglais started up on the sly (Still Once, Théâtre La Chapelle, 2003), and has recently taken French leave (En Chute) in a production that was a part of the 2003-04 season at Espace Libre. Our most recent production in 2004-05 was Here & There (D.B. Clark Theatre). The company, will — as long as it is squirming about to survive — celebrate Shakespeare's language (at times in French translation), and will, to a lesser degree, ponder upon the great English invention, the W.C. that was made possible by the Coriolis effect, which explains obliquely the company logo. The membership of NTA is to be free-flowing, variable from project to project, based on the desire of associates to work together.
Le Nouveau Théâtre Anglais is dedicated to producing new dramatic work by established and emerging Canadian artists. Our aim is to bring new plays past the workshop stage and into production, in order to complete the process of development and to help new work advance from the research and development stage into full production.
Le Nouveau Théâtre Anglais fut d'abord fondé en douce (Still Once, Théâtre La Chapelle, 2003) pour ensuite s’introduire à l’anglaise dans la saison 2003-04 de l’Espace Libre. Notre production la plus récente, Here & There, a été présentée en 2005 au Théâtre D.B. Clark, à Montréal. Notre compagnie célèbre à la fois la langue de Shakespeare (même en français) et l'invention (toute anglaise) des W.C. (en passant par la force Coriolis, d'où notre logo). Le membership du NTA est donc plutôt fluide car il dépend — d'un projet à l'autre — du simple désir de (re)travailler ensemble.
Le Nouveau Théâtre Anglais a été fondé dans le but de promouvoir et d'encourager la production et la diffusion de pièces d'auteurs Québécois et Canadiens. Il s'agit donc de mettre en scène et de faire connaître au public des oeuvres dramatiques inédites, dont le travail d'écriture est en phase de finition.
